Aurora, Ohio - August 2026 - After more than six decades of dedication to the beauty, spa, hospitality, and restaurant industries, Joanne Liuzzo, 89, is announcing her retirement from the family businesses that have become longtime landmarks in Northeast Ohio and beyond. For more than 66 years, Joanne and her late husband, Mario Liuzzo, built a family business rooted in Beauty, Health and Wellness services as well as Dining and Hospitality with a commitment to making people feel welcome. Mario passed away in 2022, and Joanne has continued to guide the businesses and carry forward the legacy they created together. The family businesses include Mario's Beauty Salon, Inc.; Mario's International Spa & Hotel; and the Cabin Restaurant of Mario's International Spa & Hotel in Aurora, Ohio. Over the years, the Mario's name has been part of communities throughout Northeast Ohio, with locations and operations in Maple Heights, Parma, Chagrin Falls, Aurora, Medina, Fairlawn and Stow, as well as the family's destination spa retreat on Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick, Canada. A Family Business and Spa Industry Legacy Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, they gained both local and national recognition for developing Mario's as a destination Day and Retreat Spa, establishing a reputation that extended well beyond Northeast Ohio. "After 66 years, it is time for me to begin the next chapter of my life," Joanne said. "Mario and I were fortunate to have so many wonderful employees, customers, friends and families become part of our lives. This business has never simply been a business to us. It has been our family, our home and our connection to so many people." The businesses and properties in Aurora, Ohio, are being offered for sale, with the property listing being handled by Hanna Commercial. Tony Visconsi, of Hanna Commercial will have all business and property sale details. The family hopes to find the right buyer or buyers who will appreciate the history, buildings, businesses, employees and the important role Mario's has played in the community. A Legacy Built One Guest at a Time Generations of customers have celebrated milestones, weddings, holidays, special occasions and everyday moments at Mario's. Employees have also played an important role in the company's history, with many dedicating years?and in some cases decades - to the organization. Joanne's retirement marks the beginning of a new chapter, but it does not mean an immediate closing of the businesses. The businesses will continue normal operations throughout the sale process. Mario's Spa, Hotel and Restaurant will all continue to accept appointments, and reservations. Spa services, overnight hotel stays, dining, private events and Holiday parties will continue to be welcomed. All gift cards will be accepted for redemption. The sale of Gift Cards will be available under a new policy and format. A Farewell Season A special Farewell Holiday Celebration is planned for the holiday season. Beginning the first week of November, Joanne will personally oversee the final Cabin Restaurant Holiday Decor and Festivities, a tradition that has become a special part of the holiday season for generations of guests. Additional details about the fall promotions, retirement celebrations and final holiday festivities will be announced in the coming weeks. Looking Toward the Future "I hope the Mario's legacy will continue in some way," Joanne said. "Most of all, I want to thank everyone who has supported us over the years-the customers who came through our doors, the employees who gave us their time and talents, and the many families who allowed us to be part of their lives. I will always be grateful." After 66 years, Joanne's retirement is not simply an ending. It is a celebration of a remarkable family story, the people who helped build it and the many memories created along the way. The Mario's businesses remain open and operating. Customers and friends are encouraged to watch for announcements regarding upcoming retirement events, promotions and the Farewell Holiday Celebration. Additional details will be announced soon.
